Let me start by saying, planning a wedding is no cakewalk and I say this with experience. Between the life changing decision of getting married to actually planning the wedding, many things are bound to trip you up. Don’t get me wrong, it was the best decision of my life to plan the entire wedding myself but doing it all by yourself also has some potential pitfalls.
Even though everything went as planned at my wedding, I definitely would have done a few things differently (If I could go back and do it).
There are a million things to do to make the most important day of your life perfect. Between juggling vendors, caterers, musicians etc along with our normal day to day activities, it does get very difficult. So the best way to handle this is to assign the work to your responsible friends and family members. The biggest realisation I had at my wedding was that not everybody is going to be happy. You are bound to disagree, argue and offend someone. Let me just stop right there and tell you, DO NOT feel guilty about that. You should definitely take into consideration the opinion of your close ones but in the end, it is your day.
Looking back, i think the best decision our families made was the venue. My husband and I both wanted a winter wedding with a small gathering of close friends and family and a beach side venue. So we finalised on GOA. The property we chose had a private beach and more than enough rooms to accommodate all our guests. Not to forget, the food was amazing. Trust me , all that the guests care about is the food, venue and music. So, we prioritized those elements of the wedding that mattered most to us instead of splurging on everything.
We each have our own version of ideas stored away for our wedding plans. I had a million ideas for my dresses and hair do for the big day. For some brides this may be the most exciting bit but for others, it can be very stressful. Honestly, don’t feel obliged to do anything at your wedding just for the heck of it. That goes for the rituals too, skip them if they don’t really matter to you.
When the big day comes, just be prepared to smile and look beautiful. This is supposed to be a life changing day for you, make sure you start it on the most positive note. Don’t stress!!! Your wedding day is going to be perfect no matter much or little you’ve planned.
